Cranston applies the familiar shift: a weekday holiday moves each remaining day's pickup by one day. A Thursday holiday moves Thursday to Friday and Friday to Saturday.

Snow can cancel a whole week

Holidays are predictable. Snow is not, and in Cranston it has canceled more collection than any holiday.

In February 2026 the city suspended all trash and recycling collection for the rest of that week to free crews for snow removal. Regular service resumed the following Monday.

Note what did not happen: there were no make-up runs. The missed week was absorbed, which means a heavy storm can leave a household carrying two weeks of waste.
