Jackson Trash Pickup Schedule

The Jackson trash pickup schedule gives residents something most American cities do not: twice-weekly garbage collection, with bulk items included on the second visit. Richard's Disposal runs the routes under contract to the city.

The detail worth internalizing is that your two weekly pickups are not the same. One takes household garbage only, and the other takes garbage plus two bulk items and bagged leaves.

How often is trash picked up in Jackson?

Twice per week, for single family homes, duplexes and triplexes. Collection runs from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Saturday, which is a notably long service window.

CollectionWhat it takesEligibility
First of the weekHousehold garbage onlySingle family, duplex, triplex
Second of the weekGarbage, 2 bulk items and bagged leavesSingle family, duplex, triplex
WednesdaysAppliances and tiresCurbside before 7:00 AM

That long collection window matters in practice. A truck arriving at 7 in the evening is still within schedule, so a bin that has not been emptied by mid-afternoon has not necessarily been missed.

Your two weekly collections differ

This is the single most useful thing to know about waste collection in Jackson, and it is easy to miss. Only one of your two weekly pickups accepts bulk items.

On that second collection you may set out two bulk items alongside your normal garbage, plus bagged leaves. Accepted bulk items include furniture, mattresses and box springs, couches, televisions, radios and toilets.

A standing two-item weekly allowance is genuinely generous. Many cities make you book a bulk pickup in advance or cap you at a couple of collections per year, so a steady clear-out is realistic here.

Find your exact pickup day

Collection days are assigned by address, and the city publishes the garbage collection schedule through its Solid Waste Division pages.

Richard's Disposal can also confirm your two days directly on 769-333-4222, which is often the quickest route if you have just moved in.

Bin placement rules

Jackson sets a defined window at both ends, so bins should neither go out too late nor sit at the roadside for days.

  • Bins roadside before 7:00 AM on your pickup day
  • No earlier than 6:00 PM the evening before
  • Bulk piles out no earlier than 24 hours ahead
  • Appliances and tires at the curb before 7:00 AM on Wednesday
  • Keep bins clear of parked cars and mailboxes

Jackson Trash Holiday Schedule

The city observes five holidays for garbage collection. The rule is stated in an unusual way, so it is worth quoting precisely: if your normal collection day falls on or after one of the five holidays, your garbage is collected on the following collection day.

Because Jackson households have two collection days a week, the practical effect is a shift to your next scheduled visit rather than a week-long wait.

Bulky waste pickup

There is no separate booking process for routine bulk items in Jackson, which is unusual and convenient. Your allowance of two items rides along with the second garbage collection of the week.

Set the pile roadside before 7:00 AM on that day, and no earlier than 24 hours beforehand. Keeping to that window matters, because a pile left out for several days is what attracts additional dumping.

Appliances & tires

Large appliances and tires are handled separately from the bulk allowance, on a dedicated day. Collection of appliances and tires is on Wednesdays, and they must be at the curb before 7:00 AM.

For tires specifically, residents can request a special pickup of up to five tires by contacting the Solid Waste Division on 601-960-1193.

Setting an old fridge out on a normal garbage day will not get it collected. Wednesday is the day for appliances no matter which two days your garbage runs.

Apartments & multifamily buildings

Twice-weekly city collection covers single family homes, duplexes and triplexes, and that boundary is stated explicitly. Larger apartment complexes fall outside it.

Buildings above triplex size are generally served by shared containers arranged through the property, so frequency and bulk provision are decided by the building rather than the city contract.

Reporting illegal dumping

Jackson provides a dedicated route for reporting illegal dumping through the city's Online Applications portal, where you select "Report Illegal Dumping".

For missed pickups and other non-emergency service problems, use the online portal or call (601) 960-0794.
