Phoenix Trash Pickup Schedule
On this page
This Phoenix trash pickup schedule covers a city that recently overhauled how it handles large-item collection - bulk trash moved from a fixed quarterly date to an appointment system in late 2024, which trips up longtime residents who still remember the old zone calendar. On top of that, a multi-year rate increase is phasing in through 2028, so the monthly number on your bill this year won't be the same one you see in 2027. Here's how Phoenix's garbage and recycling collection actually works today, what the rate changes mean for your bill, and how to book a bulk trash appointment before you need one.
How often is trash picked up in Phoenix?
Phoenix's waste collection schedule runs weekly for both garbage and recycling, picked up the same day by separate trucks so recyclables don't get contaminated.
| Stream | Frequency | Container |
|---|---|---|
| Trash | Weekly | 90-gallon black cart |
| Recycling | Weekly | 90-gallon blue cart |
| Green Organics (optional) | Weekly | Add-on subscription cart, $10.58/month |
Containers must be curbside by 5:30 AM. A smaller 60-gallon trash cart is available through the city's downsize program (called SAY R&R) if you don't need the full 90-gallon size - it also shaves a few dollars off your monthly rate, since Phoenix bills the smaller cart slightly cheaper than the standard 90-gallon setup.

How much does garbage service cost in Phoenix?
Phoenix bills solid waste separately on the city services bill, tiered by cart size and add-ons. A multi-year increase took effect July 2026, with more scheduled through 2028.
| Service | Monthly rate |
|---|---|
| Trash (90-gal) + recycling | $42.32 |
| Trash + recycling + 1 Green Organics cart | $52.90 |
| SAY R&R (60-gal) + recycling + Green Organics | $47.90 |

Bulk trash pickup
Bulk collection is folded into the standard monthly rate rather than charged per pickup, but the mechanic changed in September 2024: residents now book appointments rather than waiting for a fixed quarterly date. You get 4 appointments a year, up to 10 cubic yards each. Book online or by calling 602-262-6251, up to a year ahead and as late as 3 business days before; cancel at least 2 business days ahead.
Some HOA communities still use predetermined community-wide dates instead. Tree trimmings must be under 12 inches in diameter and 4 feet long; construction debris pieces must be 25 lbs or 4 feet or under.
Because the old quarterly-zone system is gone, don't assume your bulk pickup will happen automatically the way it used to - if you don't book an appointment, nothing gets collected. Set a reminder to use one of your 4 appointments each year so they don't quietly expire unused.
Apartments & multifamily buildings
City cart collection covers single-family homes and individually-deeded condos/townhouses. Larger apartment complexes and most multifamily or commercial properties are not on the residential program and use private haulers instead - call 602-262-6251 if you're unsure whether your address qualifies.
Reporting illegal dumping
Dumping in progress: call Crime Stop at 602-262-6151. Already happened: call 602-262-6251, or report through the myPHX311 app or portal.
